Les nouveaux propriétaires de ce penthouse au cœur de Bruxelles souhaitaient créer un jardin naturel associé à une serre destinée à la production de légumes en toute saison, notamment de piments, la passion du mari.
Deux espaces distincts
Le premier espace, situé face à la chambre, se veut contemplatif et d'inspiration japonaise. Il offre un avant-plan zen au paysage urbain, propice à la détente et à l'évasion visuelle.
Le second, en contrebas, s'inscrit dans une atmosphère méditerranéenne. Il se développe autour d'une pergola au style industriel, offrant un long porte-à-faux qui libère le plan horizontal et offre un écrin vert à un espace lounge qui devient le cœur du projet.
Des treillis Zenturo Classic viennent structurer cet espace et accueillir les plantes grimpantes, renforçant le lien entre la pergola et la végétation environnante. Cet espace convivial sous la pergola est pensé comme un lieu de rassemblement pour la tribu autour d'un chaleureux brasero en acier corten pendant les soirées.
Une palette végétale naturaliste
La palette végétale sélectionnée par le paysagiste est très naturaliste : un mélange de vivaces et de persistants ainsi que de graminées crée des jeux de textures et de mouvements.
Les végétaux sont implantés soit dans des bacs pour les hautes tiges (comme ce magnifique olivier centenaire ou des palmiers rétro-éclairés le soir par une lumière chaleureuse), soit dans de larges zones de plantation créées par des murs de soutènement en acier corten. Un système d'irrigation automatique assure un arrosage régulier de l'ensemble des plantations, garantissant leur bonne santé tout au long de l'année, y compris dans la serre potagère.
Une zone de jeu pour enfant
Ce rooftop intègre également une zone de jeu pour le jeune enfant de la famille, avec une cabane dissimulée dans la végétation. La sécurité et l'intimité ont été soigneusement étudiées grâce à l'installation d'échalas en bois doublés d'une haie de feuillus persistants afin de prévenir les chutes et d'assurer un cadre sécurisé et agréable.
The clients' wishes
The new owners of this penthouse in the heart of Brussels wanted to create a natural garden together with a greenhouse for growing vegetables throughout the year, particularly chillies, which are the husband's passion.
Two distinct areas
The first area, located opposite the bedroom, is designed as a contemplative space inspired by Japanese gardens. It provides a serene foreground to the urban landscape, offering an ideal setting for relaxation and visual escape.
The second area, situated at a lower level, embraces a Mediterranean atmosphere. It is centred around an industrial-style pergola with a generous cantilever, freeing up the horizontal plane and creating a lush setting for a lounge area that becomes the heart of the project.
Zenturo Classic trellis panels structure this area and provide support for climbing plants, strengthening the connection between the pergola and the surrounding vegetation. The convivial space beneath the pergola is designed as a gathering place for the family, centred around a warm corten steel fire pit during the evenings.
A naturalistic plant palette
The landscape designer selected a highly naturalistic plant palette: a mix of perennials, evergreen plants and grasses creates ever-changing textures and movement.
The plants are arranged either in planters for taller specimens, such as this magnificent century-old olive tree and palm trees illuminated at night with warm lighting, or in large planting areas created by corten steel retaining walls. An automatic irrigation system provides regular watering throughout the garden, ensuring the plants remain healthy all year round, including those in the vegetable greenhouse.
A play area for children
This rooftop garden also includes a play area for the family's young child, with a hidden playhouse nestled among the vegetation. Safety and privacy were carefully considered, with wooden stakes combined with a hedge of evergreen deciduous plants to help prevent falls and create a safe and pleasant environment.
